Since then she has written books on a variety of creative subjects including photo craft, jewelry making, collage, sewing, knitting, and crochet, and has contributed regular features for magazines. Boxy and Girly designs

The patterns in this book are not what I expected based on the cover. The hat on the cover is fun and a bit silly, there's a toddler boy wearing it, and the overall style portrayed is light and modern. The rest of the styles in the book are almost the opposite. There are some cute items for girls, but the vast majority of the projects are old fashioned and boxy to the point of being ill-fitting even in the pictures. The projects for newborns (semi gender-neutral) are very old fashioned and could probably be found in an heirloom knitting book (dungarees, knit pants, booties, bunting bag).
For toddler boys, there are three sweaters to choose from. All three are plain: one has buttons on the back of the neck, one has some textured stitching around the shoulders, and one has a mock-polo neck (which is ugly).
I think this book would have been better off with fewer projects. There are maybe 5 gems in here for girls or newborns, but they don't make the book worth buying.

Cute Patterns, Great for Beginners

I disagree with another reviewer. I happen to think the patterns in here are quite cute. There are a few I like less than others, I've always hated the type of hat pictured on the cover because I think it's stupid looking. The overalls pattern looks a little baggy in the legs on the hanger, where it is only pictured in that way - but on a baby it probably looks much better (like a lot of things do when someone is actually wearing them). Also, the bear looks a little weirdly proportioned in the picture, but you can easily adjust length to your liking.
The book does say 0-3 year olds, but beware that most of the items are really for babies and not so much for toddlers. That being said, this is a great beginner's book with patterns that you can easily change the look of with color choices or embellishing if you don't like it exactly as it's made in the book. I would say this book has some nice practical choices: a blanket, pants, booties, sweaters, and even a nice bunting pattern with a drawstring at the bottom. The lacy bootees and lacy mittens are the "heirloom" pattern in the book, which would make a wonderful gift for someone. There are a few fun items as well: teddy bear and nursery hanging flags.
Note the "cute and easy", this book isn't designed to appeal as much to experienced knitters, so if you are looking for serious cabling, intarsia, or anything like that you won't find it here. There is minimal intarsia introduced in a sweater and also a skirt pattern which are both very cute and a good way to introduce little techniques into a project that aren't too complicated but make the product better looking and less plain.
Haven't run into any errors yet, and haven't seen an errata on the web, so I will keep my fingers crossed it stays that way...
