About the Author

Arthur I. Stonehill is a Professor of Finance and International Business, Emeritus, at Oregon

State University, where he taught for 24 years (1966–1990). During 1991–1997 he held a split

appointment at the University of Hawaii at Manoa and Copenhagen Business School. From

1997 to 2001 he continued as a Visiting Professor at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. He

has also held teaching or research appointments at the University of California, Berkeley;

Cranfield School of Management (U.K.); and the North European Management Institute

(Norway). He was a former president of the Academy of International Business, and a

western director of the Financial Management Association.

Professor Stonehill received a B.A. (History) from Yale University (1953), an M.B.A.

from Harvard Business School (1957), and a Ph.D. in Business Administration from University

of California, Berkeley (1965). He was awarded honorary doctorates from the Aarhus

School of Business (Denmark, 1989), the Copenhagen Business School (Denmark, 1992),

and Lund University (Sweden, 1998).

He has authored or coauthored nine books and twenty-five other publications. His

articles have appeared in Financial Management, Journal of International Business Studies,

California Management Review, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Journal of

International Financial Management and Accounting, International Business Review, European

Management Journal, The Investment Analyst (U.K.), National�konomisk Tidskrift

(Denmark), Sosial�konomen (Norway), Journal of Financial Education, and others.

David K. Eiteman is Professor Emeritus of Finance at the John E. Anderson Graduate

School of Management at UCLA. He has also held teaching or research appointments at

the Hong Kong University of Science & Technology, Showa Academy of Music (Japan), the

National University of Singapore, Dalian University (China), the Helsinki School of Economics

and Business Administration (Finland), University of Hawaii at Manoa, University

of Bradford (U.K.), Cranfield School of Management (U.K.), and IDEA (Argentina). He is

a former president of the International Trade and Finance Association, Society for Economics

and Management in China, and Western Finance Association.

Professor Eiteman received a B.B.A. (Business Administration) from the University of

Michigan, Ann Arbor (1952); M.A. (Economics) from University of California, Berkeley

(1956); and a Ph.D. (Finance) from Northwestern University (1959).

He has authored or coauthored four books and twenty-nine other publications. His

articles have appeared in The Journal of Finance, The International Trade Journal, Financial

Analysts Journal, Journal of World Business, Management International, Business Horizons,

MSU Business Topics, Public Utilities Fortnightly, and others.

Michael H. Moffett is Continental Grain Professor in Finance at the Thunderbird School

of Global Management. he was formerly Associate Professor of Finance at Oregon State

University (1985–1993). He has also held teaching or research appointments at the University

of Michigan, Ann Arbor (1991–1993); the Brookings Institution, Washington, D.C., the

University of Hawaii at Manoa; the Aarhus School of Business (Denmark); the Helsinki

School of Economics and Business Administration (Finland), the International Centre for

Public Enterprises (Yugoslavia); and the University of Colorado, Boulder.

Professor Moffett received a B.A. (Economics) from the University of Texas at Austin

(1977); an M.S. (Resource Economics) from Colorado State University (1979); an M.A. (Economics)

from the University of Colorado, Boulder (1983); and Ph.D. (Economics) from the

University of Colorado, Boulder (1985).

He has authored, coauthored, or contributed to six books and 15 other publications.

His articles have appeared in the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Journal of

Applied Corporate Finance, Journal of International Money and Finance, Journal of International

Financial Management and Accounting, Contemporary Policy Issues, Brookings Discussion

Papers in International Economics, and others. He has contributed to a number of

collected works including the Handbook of Modern Finance, the International Accounting and

Finance Handbook, and the Encyclopedia of International Business. He is also coauthor of two

books in multinational business with Michael Czinkota and Ilkka Ronkainen, International

Business (7th Edition) and Global Business.

The book was great, but the index had been cut out of the back. I really disliked that. The book was in good condition otherwise and I received email notices from Amazon reminding me to return the book when my rental time was up, which was a nice reminder.

This is the same text as the more expensive version. Do yourself a favor and save your money and buy this book. Then go out to the bar and spend the 120 dollars you saved on some drinks and enjoy college. Lol. Or... Invest it.

Awful for kindle

Beware if you are downloading the rented kindle edition. I have 2 pcs running windows, 1 tablet running windows 8, 1 tablet running android, and a kindle and the ONLY thing this book will download onto is my phone. Who in the world wants to read an upper level finance textbook from their phone? Of course, after I discovered this, there was not an option to return the book even though it was 5 minutes after placing the order.

Loved it. Very informative!

I loved this kindle book.

I’m always looking for new ways to make money especially online. So I’m already familiar with topic, but I have to say this book showed me a lot I didn’t know about before. There’s so many bad money making apps out there and it’s sometimes hard to find ones that are actually worth using. This book presents a repertoire of applications and ways that actually make you earn money and are worth your time! The book is relatively short but was very informative. I was able to download a few apps and start making money within an hour, so I give it a 5 star rating and would recommend it.

About the Author

Chris de Wet is Professor and Head of the Department of Anthropology at Rhodes University, Grahamstown, South Africa, where he has been on the faculty for twenty-five years. His research for the last twenty years has concentrated on politically- and development-induced resettlement. From 1998 to 2002, he coordinated a project on development-induced displacement and resettlement for the Refugee Studies Centre at the University of Oxford, on which this collection is based.

About the Author
Vernon Zunker is a retired professor from Southwest Texas State University. He earned his Ed.D. with an emphasis on counseling from the University of Houston and completed a residency in clinical psychology at the University of Texas Medical School at Galveston. Although retired from teaching, Dr. Zunker continues to push the discipline forward by keeping career counseling relevant to all counseling students.

not recommended covers too much for one book

I used this book for a graduate career counseling course. It didn't set career development in an economic history which would explain why theory developed the way it did. Additionally, the book doesn't explain many of the theories so the student can dilineate the differences between them. the author states that career counseling will soon integrate with other forms of counseling and yet, he doesn't point out obvious relationships between career theory and other psychological and developmental theories. There is a lot of guidence on counseling which covers both general and career skills. I would have liked the assessment section to be much bigger and more practical and the school assessment section to be much smaller. Zunker has an assessment book and should probably take his huge section on school counseling and make a book from that. All together the book was very dry and boring.

A full exposure of the topic - from History to Application

I read all the other reviews, I get a feeling they are all from students. As a practicing professional in this field for the past 20 years, I can say that as Boles'"What Color is your Parachute" is the bible for Job Seekers, Zunker's "Career Counseling: Applied concepts of Life Planning" is the bible for the Career Counselor. I find Zunker's information well exposed for easy comprehension. His writing style is simple and straight-forward. I believe the book is well structured for its purpose and didn't get a 5 star rating because It should be more economical in pricing.

Do not buy this book!

If at all avoidable, DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS TEXTBOOK!!!!!

I am a graduate student just beginning a new semester. I have read the first four chapters of this book and am frustrated and angry. It is so poorly written that I am having to read and re-read the text (only to discover that most of what is contained therein is just the repeated fluff of a few simple points made ad infinitum). There is very little useful information. Were I a professor grading this text as a paper, I would give it a "D" and recommend Zunker spend some serious time in the "writing lab". I cannot believe I paid $90 for this book.

Capsule Summary and Critical Education

Richard Mathews, a noted scholar of fantastic literature in English, presents a comprehensive introduction to the genre. This inexpensive survey of fantasy is suited for beginning scholars, as it introduces significant terminology, themes, personalities, and secondary literature of the field. Sprightly, written in plain English, this is a good book for those wanting to join the larger discussion of fantasy in an academic setting.

The first chapter introduces the themes and charts the development of fantasy. Though Mathews salutes myths of the ancient world, his detailed survey begins with the 19th century, underlining fantasy as a reaction against nascent realistic fiction. He details how it grew into its own genre, and why it remains largely an English language phenomenon, since cultures with more integrated mythologies don't need to reinvent the wheel.

Chapters two, three, five, six, and seven examine in detail five authors' works which Mathews believes highlight primary threads in fantasy. Tolkien and Robert E. Howard are obvious candidates in this area. But William Morris is surprising, and T.H. White and Ursula K. Le Guin have not been as visibly studied, so their chapters are more of an education.

I wish these chapters were less descriptive and more analytical. Mathews seems to think these authors' plots should be studied in detail. But I'm more engaged in the discussion when he stops recounting plots and applies himself to themes and implications. The plot descriptions are so intricate that you need not actually read the books to follow Mathews' points.

By far my favorite chapter was chapter four, when Mathews compares the secular Socialist themes of William Morris with the hierarchical Catholic themes of J.R.R. Tolkien. Since these differences are almost a capsule summary of the tensions we fans have often seen in the genre, spotting where they came from is enlightening. And the source notes were an eye-opener too, because I can now pick up even more books and understand the field in greater detail.

This book is plain-spoken, yet so packed with interesting critical and biographical detail, that even casual fans can read it. Though it's probably small beer for more advanced scholars, if you're just wading into the field or want to learn more about how fantasy criticism works, this is a good first book to start you in the right direction.

Shallow Assessments Cloud And Demean The Genre

This survey is the weak link in Routledge's stellar 'Genres in Context' series. The author's assessments of what he considers fantasy classics (Chapters 2, 3, 5, 6, and 7) are more perfunctory summaries than perspicacious critiques; the reader often has to construct thematic concerns from the motifs and details which the author haphazardly limns. The one chapter devoted to the history of modern fantasy (Chapter 1) is woefully inadequate, failing to inform the uninitiated reader of the true depth and breadth of fantastical writing. (A comparison to Brooks Landon's supernal post-1900 science fiction survey - also from the 'Genres in Context' series - makes the lacunae in this survey all the more evident.) This tome - if in its brevity, it can be called such - serves only as a poignant reminder of the dearth of comprehensive and pensive scholarship on the fantasy genre.

A decent scholarly look at fantasy

For the non-scholar, this book has plenty of information concerning the genre of fantasy, from its (supposed) origins in myth and folklore to its modern treatments. The structure of the book is helpful by identifying and describing different types of fantasy stories, from classic high fantasy like the Lord of the Rings to modern dark fantasy like the Conan stories. Even if the discussions become too focused on different stories' plots, you can still learn a great deal about what these stories are about and how to read them for maximum benefit. So this book is a good place to start, at least, for anyone interested in learning about fantasy as a genre.

Would you like to get lean, get strong, improve mental clarity, and enjoy the process? This book will explain how in an how.

This is a quick and easy guide to getting started to the Ketogenic lifestyle. Brian Williamson lays out a simple lifestyle diet in plain English with some detailed explanation where necessary. I especially like that he addresses alcohol and gives clear guidance on what to eat and what not to eat.

I have lived an active lifestyle and experimented with a number of different diets over the last 15 years. I am in shape and have never really considered myself overweight, yet when I started following the Keto lifestyle I was amazed to witness the drastic improvements virtually overnight. Following the protocols in this book I have lost around 30lbs in 6 months by eating more fat and loving my meals. I am stronger than I have ever been, I have added mental clarity, and I do not feel at all deprived or starved as I have in the past with other less sustainable lifestyle diets.

This is a great guide for newbies to the lifestyle or anyone looking to supplement their knowledge. Unlike most guides and books on the subject, the author keeps it brief and informative. I chose the keto life for health reasons but put off making the change for months because the information from my nutritionist and the books available were overwhelming and difficult to read. Thanks to the author's website and now this book, I made the switch without the stress or angst, that I anticipated.

This is a great read for anyone who may be starting out or wanting to know more about ketogenic diets. Most of the Ketogenic diet books I have downloaded are mainly recipe books with just a little information about the ketogenic way of life. This book not only explains what a ketogenic diet is and how to get started, it touches on the mental side of weight loss and also debunks some of the fitness myths we have all been lead to believe as truth.
